Donald Trump’s estranged niece, Mary Trump, took a sarcastic jab at her uncle by suggesting that he has “skills”—though not the kind he would likely brag about.
In a social media post, she the former president’s actions, which she referred to as “skills,” have inadvertently driven lifelong Republicans to support his election opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Donald has inspired lifelong Republicans to hit the campaign trail for Kamala Harris. Who says he doesn’t have any skills?” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Her latest remark underscores how Trump’s influence has pushed some Republicans to support Democratic candidates, including prominent figures like former Vice President Dick Cheney; his daughter Liz Cheney, a former congresswoman; and former Representative Adam Kinzinger. Additionally, more than 200 staffers from previous Republican presidential campaigns have also backed Harris.
Mary Trump’s biting comment aligns with her ongoing critique of the former president, whom she has frequently accused of damaging the country and dividing the Republican Party.
A psychologist and author, she has consistently criticized her uncle, notably through her book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man and her new memoir, Who Could Ever Love You: A Family Memoir, published in September. Both works detail her upbringing in a divided family, with references to her grandfather Fred Trump.
Recently, she turned her sarcasm on Donald Trump’s business ventures, mocking his new line of expensive collectible watches in a blog post titled “The Non-Fungible Grift.” The watches range from $499 to $100,000, and she accused her uncle of “grifting” his supporters.
She also took a swipe at her aunt, Melania Trump, sarcastically questioning the significance of the former first lady’s new memoir while referencing the irony of her stance on women’s rights.
“Just as Melania is an inspiration to us all, her latest book promo was an inspiration to me. P.S. No naked models were harmed in the making of this video,” she wrote alongside the video in a post on X Friday afternoon.
Newsweek reached out by email for comment to Donald Trump’s campaign and Melania Trump’s representatives.
In the clip, Mary asks in a voice-over: “Why do I stand proudly behind my newest book, Who Could Ever Love You? Well…I wrote it. But the more pressing question: Why does Melania think anybody cares about nude modeling gigs she did decades ago?
“Why is she equating them with timeless works of art? And why should we celebrate her body, even though she believes other women shouldn’t have any control over theirs?” Mary asked, while an image of a protester holding a sign that reads “I am the post-Roe Generation” is seen.
